Paris - 18th arrondissement

The basilica-topped butte (hill) that is the highest point of Montmartre is a magnet for visitors to Paris and  although some dismiss the area as 'too touristy' we highly recommend it.

This is an area of the Paris that has a history like no other part of the city. Influenced by artists and anarchists alike it provides it rich life-tapestry in many colours.

By day the you can witness the sun's reflection on the white exterior of the basilica Sacré Coeur and the colourful scenes around the Place du Tertre just a few minutes away.

By night you can trawl the streets of the Pigalle, renowned as the home of X-rated peep shows, strip clubs, sex shops and more besides. Some may say it is still a little like taking a 'walk on the wild side' but it is perfectly safe and fun to be an external voyeur for the time it takes to walk west along Boulevard de Clichy towards the world famous Moulin Rouge.
