ABOUT GETTING AROUND PARIS
Getting around the city of Paris is really easy as it is not large, in fact within the city boundaries is only 16km east to west and 10km north to south. The centre of the city which contains the major tourist attractions is easily walkable. For example from the Sacre Coeur in the north (Montmartre) to the Montparnasse Tower in the south can be done in under 1 1/2 hours and the Eiffel Tower in the west to Pierre-Lachaise cemetery in the east only 10 minutes longer.
You don't have to walk, although we encourage it, as you have the excellent back-up of their wonderful metro and bus services which are as a rule inexpensive and reliable plus you can use Paris' excellent bike-hire system (Velib). For longer journeys there is the RER suburban train network and for those who can afford it there are 'Taxis Parisien'
The most daunting prospect for many first time visitors is actually getting into central Paris from the airports but we've got that covered (no we don't expect you to walk), showing you the options available.
